Soooooo
This morning for some reason I woke up with an urge to pick up my commissions again. But then I remembered that I have way too much to do for work and that I should get some of that stuff done first. However it did remind me of how much of a huge dong I am for having so many commissions sit for so long, so I figured a little update on the situation wouldn't be a bad idea.
I always swore I'd never be one of those people who would accept commissions then disappear... But I totally am, and I'm starting to understand why it happens so often with other artists. It's just so easy, when you start working a job you love, to just get distracted by project after project and then suddenly, a month, months, YEARS have gone by and you haven't touched a commission. It's not an intentional effort to ignore them, it just keeps slipping and keeps slipping, until it's been so long you start to wonder if anyone even remembers you owe them anything... But I imagine it's harder to forget about on that end.
So as some of you know, and more of you SHOULD know, I work at Gaia Online. My schedule there has always been a little crazy, which I don't really mind, because it's fun to work there and satisfies the egotistical artist part of me that demands people talk about my work. However it does leave me with a lot less extra creative energy. The thing is too, that it's not just things like commissions that suffer... I haven't even had time to work on my own ideas. I'm slowly trying to rebalance my schedules so I'll at least have time for that, but yeah, it's hard to break the habit of wanting to make every single thing I work on super mind-blowingly awesome. Not that it shouldn't be the best I can make it, I just need to streamline and not spend so much extra time thinking about it.
I figure the least I can do is explain a little of what I do spend my time on, for those of you who are not yet aware.
Earlier, I was mainly an animator on Gaia's zOMG game, but since release we haven't been able to do many updates on the art end so I've been drifting away from that. Currently, I have four other projects bouncing around in my head. Two of them I can't really talk about, except that it involves items and comics and art (but then, what on Gaia doesn't involve all those). Another one is an evolving item, which I technically (and a little stupidly) volunteered to do, just because I've been wanting to make those items for several months now. For those of you unfamiliar, an evolving item is a pixel avatar item that users pay cash for, and changes every 2-3 weeks over a few months, sometimes having as many as 11-12 evolutions, each with several different poses. Also I'm working on an accompanying 4 koma for each evolution. It's a commitment.
The fourth and most important is the random box item. Those of you who know Gaia have probably got your hackles up right about now, haha. The random box item is a "consumable" item that we release every so often, and contains a dozen or so brand new items as well as several common items, so you don't know what you are going to get when you open it. It's a bit of an evil mechanic, but business can be evil sometimes, lol. Users hate these because getting the item you want can be really hard, but, they still sell better than any other type of item, so we rely on them more heavily than users realize. One way we're trying to increase the value besides including high quality items, is the entertainment aspect; it's bit of a tradeoff, having to do an item that is generally not well loved by users, but also getting to do some story or character development, as well as illustration with it. Hopefully we'll be able to get to the point someday where users will actually enjoy the box item... But it's just a hope right now

Sooo anyway, that's where I stand right now, and that's why the spot where I'm standing is so far away from commissions. I don't know why I suddenly woke up and thought about them... Maybe it's some repressed guilt, on top of the regular guilt. Even with all my excuses I still do feel mean about it, and I really hope I'll get some time soon to finish them.
Just letting y'all know. You've all been so patient, and I really hope I'll be able to make it worth the time you've spent waiting. Thank you <3
