I wanted to include this sculpture in my portfolio, so I finally put together some photos; originally it was a sculpey figure of Peka and the frog from ~ethe's and my short animation (which may be online soon!) and my first sculpey figure... however, I decided to make a mold of it and make resin copies, and what the teacher neglected to tell me was that sculptures rarely survive removal from the mold T.T so I still have it, but it's in lots of pieces. at least now I have a mold of it, bubbly as it may be, and nine copies that need lots of sanding and filling and paint. the one at the top and in front is the farthest along, excepting the one I did finish for the class, but I never got a decent photo of it and he took it for display. oh well.

hey guys... if I figured out how to make resin copies without school resources... I could totally start making figures. would anyone be interested in that? I could do OCs (like YB and the guys from my new comic) and official characters like L from DN. thing is, they'd be expensive at first... but can I do a quick unofficial poll on whether or not you'd be interested, and what you'd be interested in? I'd just like to know how much effort to put into making the figures sellable.

Where did you buy the Resin??? I only found one place online, and I have to buy a lot at once.

And what kind of mold did you use? Sillicone? I don't know how well sillicone molds work with Resin, but it'll keep your original copy in pretty good condition.

It'd be nice if I could also find resources on how to get into toymaking... like Vinyl figures... ahhhh *drool*

I realize you have a lot of posts, but when it comes to getting a sculpture of my OC, I'm totally there. O__O That would be something never offered before and I'm thinking it would be uber expensive, at least ... $100? I don't know. But I would want one, and I'd save oodles of money to get her!

Man, to do OCs I'd have to charge waayyy more than $100, which is why I don't think it will get anywhere ultimately. Based on the amount of work to put in sculpting and painting, the effort of trying to reproduce an unfamiliar character, the fact that it's fragile material as well as the original and extremely limited (unless they want molds and resin copies, in which case both the hour and material costs go up) and based on the quality I would attempt to achieve with each sculpture, I'd have to price it in the high hundreds or possibly over a thousand to make it worth it. I know most people would prefer their OC, but I couldn't possibly offer individual OC sculptures at the same rate as my own characters or official ones, which is why I didn't include it in the polling in the first place.
Sorry to go off on a rant on ya ;)

No no... rant away. xD I should have mentioned I've never sculpted anything in my life... nor used resin... nor would I have any clue what-so-ever as to the time/work needed. And now that you've said it... yes, I could see why it could easily end up in the 1000 range. I think I was dreaming before. xD I shouldn't get on the internet at such hours and stare longingly at other people's talents. In any case, yours is still adorable, and I can still dream of having my OC character's in such a form, it would be magnificent for me. -goes back into lurk mode- And thanks for the commission. <3
